Harmos Horton Lusk is one of the winners of the Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year award at the 2023 New Zealand Law Awards for its role in advising on the liquidation of CBL Insurance. This is the second year in a row that the firm has won this award.
Harmos Horton Lusk advised the independent non-executive directors of CBL on various non-litigation aspects of the liquidation, including advising the independent directors on engagement with various regulators, enforcement bodies and insolvency officials in New Zealand and other jurisdictions, engagement with the independent review commissioned by the Reserve Bank, and engagement with insurers. The team that advised the independent directors was led by directors Nathanael Starrenburg and Andrew Harmos.
In granting the award, the Judges’ comments included, “Complex and high value case; multi-jurisdictional, multi-party and numerous legal representatives – a complex transaction and settlement, worthy of this award”.
